• University of Lethbridge will present the Prentice Institute Brown Bag Series featuring “What does Early Childhood Education and Care have to do with Global Political Economy?” Oct. 28 from noon-1:30 p.m. at the U of L library, L1102. Jan Newberry, a U of L anthropolo­gy professor, will discuss the evolution of early childhood education and developmen­t programs around the world.

• “The Beggar’s Opera” will be staged Oct. 28-29, 7:30-10 p.m., at the U of L’s David Spinks Theatre. The Beggar’s Opera became a sensation in 1728 and nearly 300 years later, it can still hold the stage. Its hummable tunes and fast-paced satirical plot helped point the way to the musical comedy of today.

• Galt Museum and Archives will hold its Halloween Spooktacul­ar event Oct. 29 from 1–4:30 p.m. as part of Museum Community Day. The event will feature games, crafts and Galt ghost stories. Free admission; for all ages. Costumes are welcome and encouraged.

• The second annual Monster Mash Halloween Fundraiser will take place Oct. 29 from 7-11 p.m. in ATB Financial Community Room at Casa, 230 8 St. S. The event is a fundraiser for The Gallery at Casa. Featuring costume judging, carving contest, music and arty fun. Tickets are $20 (earlybird) and $25 at the door.

• The Rotary Club will present its annual Black Tie Gala Oct. 29 at the Coast Hotel, featuring clean-humour comedian Andy Pitz from New York City. Cocktails at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets $125 per plate, $475 for a table of four, $950 for a table of eight. • The Harambee Grandmas will hold a Fabric and Yarn Sale Oct. 29 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at McKillop United Church, with proceeds going to the Stephen Lewis Foundation's Grandmothe­rs to Grandmothe­rs Campaign. • Kinsmen Club of Coaldale will hold a Halloween Fundraiser Cabaret Oct. 29 from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. at the Coaldale Community Centre, featuring music by DJ PBE’s Video Dance Party.
