Hurricanes host Warriors tonight

- Dale Woodard LETHBRIDGE HERALD

Lethbridge Hurricanes play their third game in a stretch of four consecutive home contests tonight when they welcome the Moose Jaw Warriors to the Enmax Centre in Western Hockey League action beginning at 7 p.m.

The Canes enjoyed a 2-0 weekend that included a 5-4 win over the Victoria Royals Friday night and a 6-2 win over the Saskatoon Blades Saturday that improved Lethbridge to 36-16-4-3.

That keeps the Hurricanes six points back of the Central Division-leading Medicine Hat Tigers (42-17-1-0).

The Hurricanes have only lost two games in regulation since Jan. 4, a 4-1 loss to the Warriors in Moose Jaw and again on Feb. 11 in a 5-0 loss in Medicine Hat.

The Hurricanes and Warriors have played once since that Jan. 4 loss when the Hurricanes blanked the Warriors 3-0 at the Enmax Centre Feb. 4.

The Warriors (34-17-7-1) are 4-5-1-0 in their past 10 games and six points up on the Swift Current Broncos for second place in the East Division.

The Warriors were in Medicine Hat Tuesday night, and beat nationally firstranked Regina Pats 4-0 Saturday night in Moose Jaw.

As of Tuesday, Hurricanes captain Tyler Wong and Moose Jaw’s Jayden Halbgewachs are in a three-way tie for third place in league scoring with Medicine Hat’s Chad Butcher with 85 points each.

Wong’s goal against the Blades Saturday was his 43rd of the season and equals his output from last year.

Hurricanes overage forward Zak Zborosky is also closing in on 40 goals this season, sitting with 38.

After Halbgewachs, former Hurricane Brayden Burke is second on the team in scoring, with 16 goals and 70 points.

The Hurricanes finish their four-game home stand Friday when the Brandon Wheat Kings visit.
