5th on 5th Youth Services launches 21st annual Investing in Youth Campaign with a goal to raise $30,000

A local organization aimed at helping young people gain valuable work experience has launched its annual fundraising campaign.

On Tuesday, 5th on 5th Youth Services launched the 21st annual Investing in Youth Campaign for 2017: “Kick Start Your Career.”

Organizers hope to raise about $30,000 this year to help offset the cost of programming available through the organization.

The four major 5th on 5th Youth Services programs include: Forward Life Impact, which works with individuals with different barriers to employment; Direct to Work Experience Program, which connects individuals with a trade or area of interest in their vicinity; the Reach Up program, which works with individuals who have selfdisclosed disabilities; and the Career Focus which helps postsecondary students connect to an employer in their fields of study.

“All of them have work experience attached to them, so individuals can get experience working in their field of interest while connecting to an employer for valuable employment in the community,” said Executive Director Trevor Brown.

The campaign closes with “A Taste of Lethbridge,” an appreciation event for all donors at the $125 level and higher to be held April 29.

The event is hosted by Servus Sports Centre, a multi-purpose soccer facility.

On the menu for the event are unique food items and refreshments from an array of local establishments as well as chances to win prizes, a 50/50 draw, live entertainment and a silent auction with specialty items from around the community.

“Investing doesn’t just have to do with money and investing in a business,” said Mayor Chris Spearman. “Investing in people goes one step further. Giving youth an opportunity they wouldn’t otherwise have in this community has really paid off.

“Investing in youth gets you two tickets to the tastiest event in town. People don’t want to miss out on that, because there is a double benefit there. One for you, and one for the kids you are helping.”

To date, the Investing in Youth campaign has raised more than $625,000 for local projects.

Established in 1994, the Lethbridge Youth Foundation operates 5th on 5th Youth Services.
