Cougars cruise past Bulldogs

Cardston Cougars rolled to a 114-70 victory over the Winston Churchill Bulldogs in Southern Alberta 4A Boys Basketball League play Tuesday.

Austin Merrill led the Cougars with 23 points while Ty Lewis and Max Russell added 19 and 17 respective­ly, followed by Jaxon Jensen with 14.

Isaac Greenwood replied with 27 points for the Bulldogs and Caleb Kadijk added 10.

In junior varsity play, Cardston defeated Churchill 93-61 behind 14 points by Gaylor Barfuss and 13 from Adyn Card. Jayce Nelson and Bryn Nelson added 12 points each in the win.

Connor Hellofs replied with 25 points for Churchill and Rueben Roth added 11.

Boomer Heggie scored 22 points and Brock Dewsberry added 20 as the Raymond Comets topped the Catholic Central Cougars 102-83. Spencer Roberts and Aaron Fromm added 18 and 15 points respective­ly for the winners.

Avery Hoffman led CCH with 19 points while Luka Korosek and Kadon Davidson added 17 and 12 respective­ly.

Raymond outlasted CCH 69-62 in the JV contest as Justin Martin hit for 18 points and Adam Burton and Brim West added 14 each.

Shae Gibb scored a game-high 27 points in a losing cause.

Magrath Zeniths held off the LCI Rams 81-75 as Sam Payne scored 24 points and Taylor Cook added 21, followed by Mason Stock with 13 and Parker Clifton with 10.

Charlie Day Chief replied with 19 points for the Rams with Tanner McLachlan scoring 14 and John Evans 12.

LCI defeated Magrath 66-53 in the JV game behind 15 points from Brandon Laycock and 13 by Zach Jacobs. Kai Andersen led Magrath with 20 points while Austin Wolknitz and Levi Steed added seven each.
