Fresh off their appearances at the U SPORTS Track and Field Championships in Edmonton, a pair of Pronghorns track athletes have been selected as this week’s Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week.

Winning the Male Athlete of the Week award is Peter Millman, while Lara Roth gets the nod as the Female Athlete of the Week.

Prior to nationals, Millman — a Pronghorns fifth-year thrower — was named the U SPORTS Male Field Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row and added to his award haul as the StudentAthlete Community Service Award winner for the first time in his career.

After qualifying for the weight throw event in each of his five years, Millman finally reached the podium Friday, winning the bronze medal.

His farthest throw of 18.82 metres was a season best and just three centimetres short off his personal best.

In the final event of his Pronghorn career, the Truro, N.S. product took home his third consecutive national gold medal in the shot put with a toss of 17.25 metres.

Millman was also named the Canada West Male First Star of the Week.

Millman concluded his Pronghorn career with four national medals, nine Canada West gold medals, two national Field Athlete of the Year awards and as a fourtime Canada West Field Athlete of the Year.

A fourth-year thrower, Roth was the lone female Pronghorn to qualify for the U SPORTS Track and Field Championships.

She entered the weight throw event ranked 11th and was looking as a long shot to hit the podium, but enjoyed a strong weekend.

Roth, who hails from Brooks, was the first of six Pronghorns to compete and while she didn’t reach the podium, she moved up two spots and finished ninth. She also set a new personal best with her farthest toss of 14.99 metres.

This season, Roth won two Canada West medals with a silver in the weight throw and a bronze in the shot put in Regina and sets herself up for a successful senior season next year.
