Medallists and good sports

The Lethbridge Football Club U12 Tier II boys earned more than a medal at provincial­s last weeekend. The LFC won the bronze medal as they headed to the Alberta Soccer Associatio­n (ASA) Servus Credit Union Youth Indoor Provincial­s in Grande Prairie.

In addition to taking third place in the province, LFC was also chosen for the The Fair Play Award for the most sportsmanl­ike team, assessed each game by the referees and the ASA reps.

LFC started itsprovinc­ial run with a 1-0 win over the Calgary Foothills Soccer Club as Grayson Indenbosch provided the lone Lethbridge goal and Adam Krisko earned the shutout.

Lethbridge won its second game, edging the Okotoks United Soccer Club 3-2.

Bronson Schlichter, Abraham Efunbajo — a header off a rebound — and Leo Kadezabek were the LFC goal scorers.

The win put LFC in the semifinals, but the locals were defeated 5-2 by the Calgary Blizzard Soccer Club. Schlichter and Aiden Campbell scored for LFC.

But with the bronze medal on the line, the LFC capped off its weekend on a winning note with a 5-4 decision over the Airdrie Football Club.

Schlichter scored twice for Lethbridge and Indenbosch, Felix Dubord and Campbell added singles.

The Edmonton Warriors Soccer Club were the gold medal winners, while the Calgary Blizzard Soccer Club took home the silver medal.
