Minor AAA midgets going for provincial gold today

The Lethbridge Headwater minor midget AAA Hurricanes will play for provincial gold this afternoon.

The Hurricanes soundly defeated the Grande Prairie Grande Peace Storm 10-1 in the semifinal of the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Provincial Championsh­ip Saturday afternoon in Grande Prairie.

With the win, the Hurricanes will now face the Calgary CNHA Canucks in the provincial gold medal game this afternoon at 1:45 p.m.

In Saturday's semifinal, Daniel Anton led the Canes with a hat trick and three assist for a six-point outing, while Roc Truman also had a threegoal afternoon and an assist for four points.

Matthew Vogelaar, affiliated player Zachary Stringer, Michael Horon and Tyler Davidson added the other Lethbridge goals.

Vogelaar and Stringer added two helpers each for a threepoint game and Griffen Fraser chipped in with three assists.

Horon added one assist for two points.

The Hurricanes started their provincial run with a 7-1 over the Storm Wednesday and moved to 2-0 Thursday with a 9-0 win over Edmonton CAC United Cycle.

The Canes capped off Thursday's play with a 3-0 blanking of the Calgary CBHA Rangers.

Lethbridge put up another two wins on Friday, first with a 5-2 win over the Canucks and a 6-3 doubling of the St. Albert Flyers, who finished first in the regular season at 32-4-1.
