30 YEARS STRONG

- Dustin FORBES

Game 2, Round 1:

The Lethbridge Hurricanes and Red Deer Rebels will play Game 2 of their best-of-seven series tonight at 6:00pm at the ENMAX Centre. The teams opened the 2017 WHL Playoffs in Game 1 last night in front of a ruckus building. After tonight, the series will shift to Red Deer for Games 3 & 4 on Wednesday and Thursday.

#WhiteOut:

You know what to do! Let’s white out the ENMAX Centre for the entire WHL Playoffs! Make sure you wear your white jerseys, white shirts and let’s rock the Rink on Scenic Drive! Oh, and be loud!

Goal Differential:

During the regular season, the Hurricanes had their way with the Rebels posting a 5-0-1-0 record and outscoring them 26-13 in those six games. That’s an average of 4.33 to 2.17 per game. The ‘Canes were even better at the ENMAX Centre outscoring the Rebels on average of 4.67 to 1.67 per game.

Special Teams Dominance:

The ‘Canes won the special teams battle handily in the regular season against the Rebels. The ‘Canes power play clicked along at a 34.6% rate (9/26) while the penalty kill was superb killing at an 88.9% rate (16/18). Neither team scored a shorthanded goal in the six games.

Tear ‘Em Up:

The duo of Tyler Wong and Giorgio Estephan love playing the Red Deer Rebels; or at least their stats would tell you that. Both Wong and Estephan racked up an impressive 13 points in the six regular season games against the Rebels. Wong finished with six goals and seven assists while Estephan had seven goals and six helpers.

Captain-less Ship:

Let me preface this by saying, it’s not the Hurricanes without their Captain, instead it’s the Rebels. Red Deer has been without their leader Adam Musil since the beginning of March. He is listed as “week-to-week” with a lower body injury. It’s always interesting to see if those injured guys get into the line-up come playoff time. If the Rebels will in fact be without Musil that will be a big hit.
