For those who suffered through the winter blahs, things are looking brighter with live horse racing just around the corner at the Rocky Mountain Turf Club.

The Spring Meet kicks off May 13-14 and winds up July 2 at Whoop-Up Downs after celebrating the Millarville Race Meet on July 1.

Spring racing includes the May 20-22 long weekend, May 27-28, June 2-4, 9-11, 16-18, 23-25 and June 30, Millarville (July 1) and the closing of the Spring Meet, Sunday, July 2.

Come July and August the ponies head for Grande Prairie, but the RMTC welcomes the jockeys, trainers, owners and horses back Sept. 2-4 for the start of the Fall Meet.

Fall racing continues Sept. 9-10, 15-17, 22-24 and Sept. 29 to Oct. 1. As well, there’ll be racing Oct. 6-9 for the only four-day card of the year and closes out Oct. 14-15.

“This gives us 42 days of racing, including the historic Millarville Meet, and we’re pleased with that,” says RMTC CEO Max Gibb.

“Our post times remain the same, 6 p.m. on Fridays and 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and holiday Mondays. We’ve found these are ideal times, for sure.

“We look forward to our returning fans and we more than welcome any new fans who wish to take in this greatest sport in the world. We also offer a wide array of Vegas-style slots in Bullys along with great food and drinks, and during each race day we have a large mini-mart on the main floor.

“Besides the main floor you can watch the races live along with a wide array of simulcast races in the comfort of our third-floor Champions Room, and on the fifth floor as well.”

RMTC also offers an array of activities for the youngsters, including the candy scramble and there’s also the Rocky Mountain Dixieland Jazz Band each race day.
