Stabbing suspects to return to court next week
Three people accused of stabbing two men during an altercation on the westside will be back in court next week.
Lethbridge residents Angela Dawn Spearchief, 24, and Dustin Courtney Okimaw, 30, were in provincial court Friday, but had their matters adjourned to Thursday. They are charged along with Joel McKenzie Guzman, 25, who was in court earlier in the week and had his matter adjourned to Monday.
All three accused, who remain in custody at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, are charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
Around 6:30 p.m. last Saturday, Lethbridge police were called to an assault along Berkeley Place West. When police arrived, they found a 19-year-old man and a 22year-old man suffering from severe injuries.
The men were rushed to the hospital with multiple stab wounds to the upper body, initially believed to be lifethreatening, and the younger man also sustained a serious head injury. He was airlifted by STARS to Calgary.
Police determined the men were assaulted by a group of people known to them, and that before the confrontation the victims and their assailants had been taunting each another.
The suspects were located shortly afterward and two men and one woman were arrested without incident.
