Writer’s claim a case of revisionist history
I would like to comment on the letter to the editor that questioned the Easter photo that appeared on the front page of the Lethbridge Herald, April 14, which reminded everyone of the true meaning of Easter.
To suggest that the picture was inappropriate for school children to see because of their impressionable age is unacceptable. Based on your standard, much of what is on television and the movies would also be unacceptable. To say that the Easter story is a grim Christian myth is but an example of left-wing revisionist history. The narrative of the death and resurrection of Jesus is a proven historical fact. Not to share the story of the only one to ever “walk out of his grave” with youth, and adults for that matter, is unthinkable.
You wonder how Christianity ever got off the ground. The credit belongs to the 12 apostles of Jesus, and Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles who took the story and told it throughout the Roman Empire. Three hundred years after the resurrection of Jesus, the empire declared Christianity a state religion. From there it has spread throughout the world. The Bible remains to this day the most published book ever written. The dividing point of history is marked by the birth of Jesus Christ — Anno Domino — AD.
Christianity has revolutionized society. It would take more space than this page provides to chronicle all the positive benefits that have come to us because of the teachings of the Christian faith. Now to suggest that we return to the paganism of the past is unthinkable. In the end, the truth always prevails.
