• Ogan School Nigeria Milestone Celebration Benefit Concert will take place May 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Southminster United Church, 1011 4 Ave. S. • The Anglican Church of the Ascension, 2115 17 St., Coaldale, will hold its Annual Garage Sale May 12 from 4-8 p.m. and May 13 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Featuring household items, toys, books, clothing, furniture, tools, sporting goods and a bake table. • Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans Club invites the public to play shuffleboard, mixed darts and billiards (pool) Fridays, 7 p.m., 517 5 Ave. S.

• “Art Therapy: A Community Practice,” a talk by Maya Ichikawa, will be presented May 13 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta, 470 40 St. S. Open to the public; free admission. Maya will talk about the scope of art therapy and how it is effective with community groups and a wider audience, going beyond the individual therapy session.
• Monarch Days, celebrating Canada 150, will be take place May 13, starting with a pancake breakfast from 7:30-10:30 a.m. at the Monarch Community Hall. There will also be a bake sale, parade at 11 a.m., and hamburgers and ice cream for sale. Garage sales will take place throughout the hamlet of Monarch. Come and join the fun.
• The Galt Museum’s Saturdays at 1:00 hands-on history program for families continues May 13 from 1-2 p.m., featuring “Water Conservation.” Make a craft and find out how you can help conserve water from Stephanie Vehnon from the Water, Wastewater and Stormwater Department at the City of Lethbridge. Admission fees apply; registration not required (includes exhibit access).
• The Lethbridge Rotary Lobsterfest 2017 will be held May 13 at Exhibition Park. Featuring lobster flown live from the East Coast, Stirling Silver premium steak, salad, potato and dessert. • The Asian Heritage Festival, in conjunction with Asian Heritage Month, will be held May 13 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Multicultural Centre, corner of 5 Street and 6 Avenue South, featuring display tables from various ethnic groups, dancing, singing, fashion shows, children’s activities and more.
• The Gem of the West Museum Society is hosting a Grand Opening event for the 2017 season May 13 from 1-4 p.m. at the Gem of the West Museum, 1306 20 St. in Coaldale. Be among the first to see the new exhibit on the early history of the RCMP in southern Alberta. Free admission; refreshments will be served.
• The Rehoboth Garden Centre will host its Annual Spring Sale and Barbecue May 13. Coffee on at 9:30 a.m., barbecue and bake sale will run from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Garden centre will be open from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Come check out the bedding plants, perennials, hanging baskets, patio furniture, weaving and gardening supplies. • The annual Kidney Walk, benefiting the Kidney Foundation of Canada, will take place May 13 at Henderson Lake. Registration at 9 a.m., walk starts at 10 a.m. with 3K and 6K options. • Helen Schuler Nature Centre’s Junior Naturalist program, for ages 6-10, continues May 13 from 10 a.m.-noon with Nature Olympics. Nature themes are explored through fun, games and discovery. Adults are required to sign children into this free drop-in program and pick them up promptly at noon.
• Trigeminal Neuralgia Support Group meets the second Saturday of the month at 2 p.m. in Room C and D at the LSCO, 500 11 St. S. Trigeminal neuralgia is a neuropathic disorder characterized by episodes of intense pain in the face, originating from the trigeminal nerve. Individuals with TN and their family members are invited to attend meetings. • University of Lethbridge presents En Plein Air ’17 — Buds ‘n’ Blossoms, May 14, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Coutts Centre for Western Canadian Heritage. Artists of all stripes are invited to attend the first of four open-house days scheduled for the 2017 season. • St. Michael’s Ladies Auxiliary will hold its next meeting May 15 at 1:30 p.m. in a room off of the atrium. Anyone with some spare time is invited to attend and share in refreshments and snacks afterwards. • Slowing Down in a Speeded Up World: Laugh Again with Phil Callaway will be held May 15 at 7 p.m. at Park Meadows Baptist Church, 2011 15 Ave. N. • Cheers 4 Lethbridge will host a talk by Lethbridge philanthropist and mountain climber Trevor Stuart May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Lethbridge Public Library Theatre Gallery (Main Branch). The evening will include a 45-minute presentation and a video describing how Stuart’s early life left him wanting to make a difference in Lethbridge.
• The German Canadian Club of Lethbridge will hold a Spring Dance May 20 at 902 6 St. N. Cocktails at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m., dance at 8 p.m. with music by Alpen Schatz. Dinner of sauerbraten, rotkraut mariniert in rot wein, butterspatzle and nachspeise. Tickets $20 for members, $25 for invited guests. • Save up your pop bottles, juice boxes, milk jugs and other recyclables and exchange them for a drop-in pass to West Wind Gymnastics - one pass per garbage bag of cans. All money raised from this fundraiser will support the programs offered by the West Wind Gymnastics Club. Bottles can be dropped off between May 22 and May 27 at the club, located at 1014 3 Ave. N. • Adjusting to retirement can be challenging. Men and Retirement is a workshop consisting of 6 free interactive sessions that will focus on the non-financial aspects of retirement, running Wednesdays, May 24-June

• The Alberta Civil Liberties Research Centre will host a one-day seminar on Employers’ Legal Duty to Accommodate Employees’ Human Rights under the Alberta Human Rights Act, May 25 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Lethbridge Public Library Theatre Gallery (Main Branch), 810 5 Ave. S. • The Lethbridge Association of the Blind (LAB) provides numerous activities for the blind and visually impaired in the Lethbridge area. Some of these include dinners with entertainment, attending musicals at the Yates Theatre and tours of local museums. The association also runs a bowling league which takes place weekly at the Holiday Bowl. • The Chinook Society for Recovering Addicts, a not-for-profit registered society with charitable status, makes its renovated facility at 408 13 St. N. available as a meeting room space to 12-step groups as well as other groups or organizations. Each of the three available rooms includes tables, chairs, commercial coffee maker and sink. There is a centrally located locker room for group supplies as well as central men’s and women’s washrooms. The facility has central HVAC, is smoke free and wheelchair accessible. • The Annual Walk for Dog Guides, organized by the South Alberta Lions Walk for Dog Guides Committee, will take place May 27 at Henderson
Lake Park (Gunnery Picnic Shelter). Registration at 11 a.m., walk starts at noon, followed by a barbecue sponsored by M&M Meats. There will also be a police dog demonstration.
