Ki­sio named as­sis­tant for Ivan Hlinka tourney

Leth­bridge Hur­ri­canes head coach Brent Ki­sio will have an ex­tra job this sum­mer.

Hockey Canada an­nounced Thurs­day that Ki­sio has been named as an as­sis­tant coach for Canada’s Na­tional Men’s Sum­mer Un­der-18 team that will com­pete at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Me­mo­rial Cup.

Ki­sio as the head coach of Team Canada White at the 2016 World Un­der-17 Hockey Chal­lenge and an as­sis­tant coach with Team Pa­cific in 2013.

In two sea­sons with the Canes, Ki­sio — who as hired in the sum­mer of 2015 — has posted an over­all record of 8843-5-4 in 140 games.

He led the Canes to Eastern Con­fer­ence Cham­pi­onship Se­ries this spring be­fore fall­ing to the Regina Pats in six games.

He cur­rently sits fifth all-time in fran­chise vic­to­ries among Hur­ri­cane head coaches.

The 2017 Ivan Hlinka Tour­na­ment will take place later in the sum­mer.
