Kisio named assistant for Ivan Hlinka tourney

Lethbridge Hurricanes head coach Brent Kisio will have an extra job this summer.

Hockey Canada announced Thursday that Kisio has been named as an assistant coach for Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 team that will compete at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup.

Kisio as the head coach of Team Canada White at the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and an assistant coach with Team Pacific in 2013.

In two seasons with the Canes, Kisio — who as hired in the summer of 2015 — has posted an overall record of 8843-5-4 in 140 games.

He led the Canes to Eastern Conference Championsh­ip Series this spring before falling to the Regina Pats in six games.

He currently sits fifth all-time in franchise victories among Hurricane head coaches.

The 2017 Ivan Hlinka Tournament will take place later in the summer.
