• Blankets for Canada Lethbridge meets Thursdays from 10 a.m.-noon at the west entrance of Southminst­er United Church (11 Street and 4 Avenue). We are in need of more volunteers. Donations of yarn or financial donations are greatly appreciate­d, also eight- or nine-inch squares as well as strips 70 inches long, knitted or crocheted. • Royal Canadian Legion General Stewart Branch No. 4 hosts cribbage every Thursday with a start time of 6:45 p.m. Don’t be late; come out and play.

• Are you interested in writing? The River Bottom Writers invite you to join them the second and fourth Thursday of every month at 6:45 p.m. in the Richardson Oilseed Room at Lethbridge College for a session of informal writing practice. All genre writers are welcome. Bring pen, paper or laptop.

• Sunrise Village, 1730 10 Ave. S. (across from hospital), will feature live music by Boyd Low May 25 at 6:30 p.m. No charge. Everyone welcome for good music and treats.

• The Lethbridge Symphony’s public production of “Feel the Beat” will take place May 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Southminst­er United Church. “Feel the Beat,” part of the Lethbridge Symphony’s Vibrations Youth Programmin­g, is a lightheart­ed introducti­on to live symphonic music for kids of all ages. The concert is in addition to four daytime concerts for school groups which have been sold out for weeks.

• The Lethbridge Public Library Adult Literacy Program, Read On, will host Lionel Laroche, a dynamic speaker who will present “Bridging the Cultural Gap”

May 26 at 7 p.m. at Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organizati­on, 500 11 St. S., in Gym #2. No registrati­on is required for this free event; attendees are invited to bring a donation for the local food banks. This summer, Read On is offering a chance for individual­s to improve their conversati­on skills by getting together at different playground­s in the city. • The Annual Walk for Dog Guides, organized by the South Alberta Lions Walk for Dog Guides Committee, will take place May 27 at Henderson Lake Park (Gunnery Picnic Shelter). Registrati­on at 11 a.m., walk starts at noon, followed by a barbecue sponsored by M&M Meats. There will also be a police dog demonstrat­ion. • The Parkinson Alberta 2017 Hope Conference will take place May 27 at the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organizati­on, 500 11 St. S. Keynote speaker will be Jean Madill of Lethbridge, who has a 30-plus-year career in global post-secondary education and leadership training, and who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2014. • McKillop United Church Neighbourh­ood Flea Market and Garage Sale will be held May 27 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the church, 2329 15 Ave. S. Sale includes household and kitchen items, lawn and garden supplies, toys, electronic­s and assorted hidden treasures. No price tags, no haggling. Church items will be sold by donation (pay what you think it’s worth).

• South Country Jamboree Society will hold a jam session May 28 at 1 p.m. at the Lethbridge Legion’s Memorial Hall. Supper may be ordered from Great Plate Catering starting at 3 p.m. Everyone welcome.

• The Catholic Central High School Interact Club will host its second annual fundraiser, CCHS Global Gala, June 3 at the Southern Alberta Ethnic Associatio­n in support of the charity Uphills Both Ways, which works to assist the poor in Nepal. Tickets are $40 per person. Organizers are also seeking sponsors for the event, with various sponsor levels available. • The Lethbridge and District Horticultu­ral Society invites the public to a free presentati­on by Lyndon Penner May 29 at 7 p.m. in the Lethbridge Public Library Theatre Gallery (main branch). Penner, a well-known garden speaker and author will discuss “Barberries & Friends” — popular and hardy shrubs for prairie gardeners. They make excellent barrier plants, too, with attractive foliage and white flowers. New related species are coming from Asia each year.

• 75th Anniversar­y at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church (643 13 St. N.) will be celebrated June 3 - Vespers at 6 p.m., and June 4 - Hierarchia­l Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. with Bishop Ilarion. Hours at 9 a.m. Hierarchia­l Divine liturgy followed by a celebratio­n at the German Canadian Club. • Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre will host a trip to the St. Eugene Casino Resort in Cranbrook June 5-7 (three days and two nights) for gambling and relaxation.
