Music ministry keeping Dan and Melissa David busy

In the close to three years since Dan and Melissa David’s last concert in Lethbridge, a lot has happened in their lives. Dan conducted a successful “music mission” to Israel in February 2015, during which he touched the lives of hundreds of Israelis. The couple welcomed a second child to their family, a son, Ari, born in September 2015. Dan’s song “The Battle of David” was nominated for a Gospel Music Association of Canada Covenant Award for Instrumental Song of the Year in 2014. And Melissa’s solo album, “Beginnings,” earned two GMA Canada Covenant Award nominations in 2016 (Instrumental Album of the Year, Instrumental Song of the Year).

Now the couple has a new worship CD, “Draw Me Close,” which is scheduled for a late June release.

The Davids will bring their musical talents back to Lethbridge June 3, when they will perform a concert as part of the 10 a.m. service at Beit Telfillah Sameach ( Joyful House of Prayer), 336 13 St. N. Everyone is welcome and admission is free, with a freewill offering to be collected in support of the couple’s ministry.

Melissa David, a 2002 University of Lethbridge graduate who originally hails from B.C., says “Draw Me Close” is “a unique project in that it is truly an international collaborative effort between ‘next generation’ believers from around the world.”

In an interview via email, she explained the album includes the contributions of songwriters, instrumentalists and audio engineers from Canada, the U.S., Israel, Mexico and South America. The CD features the couple’s newest worship songs which they have shared with audiences in concerts over the past two years. It’s their first full album with vocals since 2013’s “Visions of Messiah.”

She said the album’s 12 songs take listeners “on a journey through the Biblical Exodus out of Egypt, which parallels our spiritual journey as believers in Yeshua (Hebrew for ‘Jesus’). Both powerful and intimate, filled with victory and faith, and focused on the Scriptures, we believe that this album will be a tremendous blessing to the body of Messiah. It combines Hebrew, Celtic and Spanish influences with more traditional western sounds.”

The award nominations are an indication that the Davids’ music is garnering greater attention.

“It has certainly been encouraging to see our music recognized by the wider Christian music industry in Canada,” said Melissa. “We are pleased to be reaching a larger audience than ever before with continued expansion into televised media.”

As their music ministry grows, it must be balanced with the demands of caring for their young children.

“Without a doubt, the logistics of itinerant ministry have changed with the addition of our beautiful children,” Melissa said. “While we travelled extensively with our daughter until she was 18 months old, I took a travel sabbatical from about six months before our son’s birth in fall 2015, until early 2017.”

While Dan continued to travel, perform and represent the ministry publicly, Melissa provided support from home by handling management, PR, media, and the planning and execution of the newest CD, for which she served as executive producer and main engineer.
