Lots of games on the go at Henderson today

Have you ever played molkky? What about kubb? Maybe Spikeball? Spyderball?

These are just a few of the games you can try if you come visit the Lethbridge Sport Council at Nature Play Day, taking place today at Henderson Lake Park.

The annual Nature Play Day event is hosted by the Helen Schuler Nature Centre, and will feature fun things to do and learn from more than 20 local businesses and organizations.

The Lethbridge Sport Council will be at Nature Play Day with our friends from the Lethbridge Public Library and the Lethbridge Early Years. There will be lots to see and do while learning about some of our initiatives that promote physical literacy across all ages in our community, such as Roving Gyms, L-Skip, Baby Gyms, #YQLChallenge, loanable sport equipment and much more.

Kubb, spikeball and spyderball are all games that you could play that would help you check a few activities off your #YQLChallenge. Molkky, however, is not part of the 150 things to do in Lethbridge, mostly because we didn’t know what a great game it was at the time. Molkky is a very simple throwing game that can be played almost anywhere, including grass, sand or pavement. We learned in the office that it can also be a great indoor break from working, but I won’t get into how productive (or not) we were after the molkky game was delivered… I challenge you, come on down, play molkky with me, and add a 151st thing to your #YQLChallenge passport.

Some of our past and future SportFest friends will be at Nature Play Day as well, and they’ll be helping you check even more items off your challenge passport. While you are there, make sure you visit Breathe Parkour, High Level Canoes and Kayaks, City of Lethbridge Recreation and Culture department (they’ll have a scavenger hunt for you to do), and the Dragonboating Association of Southern Alberta (to name just a few).

There might be some things you are familiar with, and likely some things that are new to you. You will find activities you can do on your own, with a buddy, or with a large group of people. If you need to borrow equipment, check out the Lethbridge Public Library’s loanable equipment collection.
