Interest-group propaganda should be identified
LETTERS
Twice in the past week, on June 12 and 14, The Herald printed opinion pieces supplied by the Fraser Institute, attacking the economic policies of our elected Alberta government.
The Vancouver-based Fraser Institute is a right-wing lobby group funded by major corporations in Canada and the U.S., including Koch Industries, whose billionaire owners back extreme-right Republicans in their own country. Cutting taxes for business is its primary objective, on behalf of its sponsors.
The Fraser Institute masquerades as an independent think tank, and seems to have duped The Herald into taking its free content as if it is community comment. Interest-group propaganda should be identified as such, and used only as quotes in objective, balanced reporting.
