Open house for 3 Ave. project Wednesday

-

The City of Lethbridge is inviting the public to an open house of its 3 Avenue South reconstruction project on Wednesday from 2-6 p.m. in the ATB Financial Community Room at Casa.

Funding for the reconstruction of 3 Avenue from 4 Street to 8 Street South was recently approved by city council in the new 2018-27 Capital Improvement Program. The open house will inform the community of the project design and consult with stakeholders on the staging of construction, the City said in a release.

Based on the important work of past planning studies, 3 Avenue reconstruction will focus on streetscaping, a term used in urban design to describe bringing together all elements that give a street character. It will aim to increase accessibility for pedestrians, while still meeting the needs of motorists.

Streetscaping looks at things like lighting, seating, paving materials and plants/trees. The project will also upgrade underground infrastructure (Scenic Drive to Stafford Drive) and improve access, traffic efficiency and safety making it a more vibrant and pedestrian friendly street.

Open house participants will also be able to see the detailed design from 4-8 Street and preliminary design from Scenic Drive to 4 Street and 8 Street to Stafford Drive.

Construction is anticipated to begin in 2019 and be completed in 2020. To learn more visit
