Hurricanes awaiting the call

Three members of the Lethbridge Hurricanes are eligible to have their names called at this weekend’s NHL draft.

Hurricanes goaltender Stuart Skinner and forwards Jordy Bellerive and Ryan Bowen are listed in the sit in the Canadian Hockey League rankings as the draft begins today and runs until Saturday in Chicago.

Skinner is ranked fifth among North American goaltender­s, while Bellerive sits at 82nd in the overall rankings and Bowen comes in at 204th.

Drafted by the Hurricanes in the first round and 17th overall in the Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, Skinner posted a record of 34-183-2 this season to go along with a 3.26 goalsagain­st average, 0.905 save percentage and two shutouts and then backstoppe­d the Hurricanes to their first Eastern Conference final since 2008.

The 18-year-old product of Edmonton started all 20 Canes playoffs games, going 10-7-3 with a 3.09 goals-against average and a 0.916 save percentage.

In three full seasons in Lethbridge, Skinner has a 74-51-6-5 record, a 3.28 goals-against average, a 0.909 save percentage and six shutouts.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound goaltender was in Buffalo for the NHL Combine earlier this month.

Bellerive was selected second overall in the 2014 WHL bantam draft.

This past season, the five-foot-10, 194-pound centre from North Vancouver who turned 18 in May scored 27 goals and 56 points in 70 games and added another seven goals and 14 points in 20 playoff games.

In two seasons with the Canes, Bellerive has 38 goals and 92 points in 135 games.

Bowen, 18, arrived in Lethbridge in November in a deal with the Moose Jaw Warriors that saw Hurricanes forward Brayden Burke going the other way.

The six-foot-two, 175-pound right winger from Chilliwack had six goals and 24 points in 40 games after arriving in Lethbridge.

In the playoffs, Bowen had two goals and three points in 14 games.
