Second-last weekend of RMTC Spring Meet

- Rocky Mountain Turf Club

Horses, horses, horses, is the theme of this weekend at Rocky Mountain Turf Club.

There will be six races tonight and eight races both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

Tonight will be three eighthorse fields with a quarterhorse maiden race with all first-time starters.

Veteran trainers such as William Leech, Bucky Stockwell and Laurie Ferguson all have one or two going in this race. These races are always entertaining and are a long-shot bettor’s dream.

Also tonight, there is an eight-horse maiden thoroughbred race with entries from Bob Gwilliam, Les Web and Pete Dubois, just to name a few.

Saturday has eight races and features the Quarter Horse Old Timers Classic with a full field of eight horses and such familiar names as Toughie, trained by Leech, Cruisinfourabruisin, trained by Janice Sather and Bugs Lil Magic, the Fergusontrained mare.

Also on Saturday, the eighth race should be a tremendous race as we have some of the best thoroughbreds on the grounds competing over seven furlongs. Veteran Dubla Gold, trained by Dubois, will be out to show the world that he hasn’t aged. In addition, horses to watch for in this race are Londinium, trained by Mankumar Mohindee and Regroup, with new owner/trainer Darcy Ralph.

Sunday just gets even bigger and better, as highlighted are six speeddemon sprint thoroughbreds travelling five furlongs.

Horses such as Carlot Cowboy, Careless Hunter and Charlies Gold will do battle in what should be an extremely exciting race. Sunday’s highlight will be the Quarter Horse All Canadian Derby Stakes race with a field of eight.

Leech will be running the lifetime undefeated monster horse, Poutn On the Wagon, owned by Pete Schoeler; and veteran class trainer, Donalda Cochrane, will be running two of her best with the entry of Zerelda James and Pros Ranger. This should be a race to remember.

Post time tonight is 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

As always, admission is free and there are tons of kids' activities to create fun for the whole family.
