Bulls and Dawgs split

- Dale Woodard LETHBRIDGE HERALD

As they continue their marathon stretch of games against each other, the Lethbridge Bulls and Okotoks Dawgs split a double-header Sunday.

The Bulls emerged with the win during the first game thanks to a 6-5 decision, but the Dawgs bit back in the rematch, blanking the Bulls 3-0 during Western Major Baseball League action in Okotoks.

In the first game Sunday afternoon, two runs in the first and second innings proved key as the Bulls opened up a 4-1 lead.

The Dawgs cut the lead to 4-3 after the third inning and briefly took a 5-4 lead after the fifth, but Lethbridge plated two more runs in their half of the sixth to retake the lead.

The Bulls charged to a 2-0 lead after the first inning as Carter Witbeck scored on a bases loaded walk to Brock Frentzel and Alex Bishop scored on a wild pitch.

Lethbridge upped that lead to 4-0 in the second inning.

Brett Semeniuk scored on a wild pitch and Darius Carter added the fourth run courtesy a single from Blake MacDonald.

After Okotoks went up 5-4 in the fifth inning, the Bulls took the lead in the sixth and didn’t give it back when Ryan Pouwells delivered with a two-out single that scored Frentzel and Semeniuk for the 6-5 lead.

After a three-hit night Satuday night, Semeniuk batted 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

David Jones took the win for Lethbridge, coming on in relief of starter Liam Sabiston and pitching one and twothirds innings, allowing two hits and walking three.

Chris Stodolka came on in the ninth to close things out and earn the save.

In the rematch Sunday night, the Dawgs held the Bulls to five hits and scored two runs in the seventh inning and another in eighth for the shutout win to put the Bulls at 13-7 on the season, while Okotoks sits at 12-7.

Hitting leadoff, Pouwells was 2-for-4, while Ben Erwin was tagged for the loss.

The teams return to Spitz Stadium Tuesday night for another game.

Game time is 7:05 p.m.
