Aformer Lethbridge woman who got caught up in a crime ring of sorts has avoided jail and will only have to pay a few fines.

Haley Marie Trimble pleaded guilty Wednesday in Lethbridge provincial court to charges of possession of stolen property, drug possession, failure to appear in court and breaching a court order. Although she was sentenced to three, one-day jail sentences for the breach and possession of small amounts of cocaine and methamphetamine, the sentence was satisfied by her appearance in court.

Trimble, 21, was also fined a total of $690 and handed a suspended sentence of two years, during which she will be on probation and have to adhere to several conditions, including she take counselling for life skills and substance abuse and avoid contact with Mitchell Ryan Foxcroft and another man charged in relation to the stolen property.

Court was told Trimble didn’t have any criminal convictions until she got involved with Foxcroft, who was sent to prison in March after pleading guilty to several counts of possession of stolen property, as well as charges of break and enter, attempted fraud, altering a vehicle identification number, breaching court orders, dangerous driving and drug trafficking.

Trimble’s involvement in the stolen property scheme was to place advertisements on Kijiji for the items Foxcroft stole. When police caught up to them in March of last year they found a stolen Toyota Corolla at a residence plus a variety of other stolen items. Trimble also had $400 cash, considered the proceeds of crime.

In May 2016 Trimble sold some construction equipment at a pawn shop in Taber, but it was found by the owner after he began searching for his stolen items.

Crown prosecutor Clayton Giles said Trimble’s life went into a drastic tailspin after getting involved with her former boyfriend, but she has since overcome her substance abuse problems and lives in Ontario.

The third man charged with Trimble and Foxcroft, Ryan David Toner, was scheduled for trial July 31, but it will likely be rescheduled on Toner’s next court appearance July 19. Toner faces numerous charges of drug possession and possession of stolen property.
