Kodiaks Summer League continues

The Kodiak Summer League hit the court for Week 2 with a pair of games Tuesday and Thursday at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.

In Thursday’s action the Hornets downed the Heat Check 96-88, while the Kodiaks2 topped OG's 82-78.

In the Hornets win, Zac Overwater led the way with 26 points, while Colt Gibb hit for 23. Kyle Peterson (15 points), Owen Sieben (11), Colt Murray (10) and Connor Valgardson (10) also hit double digits for the Hornets.

For the Heat Check, Deng Awak had 23 points, Mitch Grant drained 19 and Shane Hoyt had 12.

Jackson Kasco paced the Kodiaks2 in their win with 20 points and Chris Maughan and Keanu Funa scored 18 and 14 points, respective­ly.

OG’s was led by Ross Bekkering’s 20-point outing. Morgan Duce chipped in with 13 points and Brandon Brine and Sini Atoia added 10 each.

In Tuesday’s action, Gibb scored game high 32 points to lead the Hornets to a 95-91 win over The OG’s.

Overwater chipped in with 21 points, while Kyle Peterson, Saren Westrop and Connor Valgardson chipped in with 17, 16 and 10 points, respective­ly.

Morgan Duce led the OG’s with 24 points, followed by Brine with 18, B.J. Bajawa with 14 and Bekkering with 13.

In the second game, Heat Check used a late rally to edge Kodiaks1 98-90.

Sparking the late rally for Heat Check was Mike Johansson with 26 points.

Awak added 22 points and Adam Spackman, Ty Pushor and Mitch Grant hit for 14, 12 and 10 points, respective­ly.

Leading Kodiaks1 was Nick Gibb with 24 points.

Chase Bohne added 17 points, Brock Dewsbury hit for 13 and Jet Steffs had 12.

Next league action is Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at Lethbridge College.
