Midget Cudas going for gold
LACROSSE TEAM IN PROVINCIAL GOLD MEDAL GAME TODAY
The Lethbridge Midget B Barracudas lacrosse teams will go for a provincial gold medal on their home turf.
The Cudas edged Lacoka in a wild 13-12 win Saturday night at the Henderson Arena as Day 2 of the Alberta Lacrosse Association Minor Box Lacrosse Provincial Championships — hosted by the Lethbridge Lacrosse Association wrapped up at four arenas across the city.
With the win — that had both teams tied after the first and second periods — the midget Barracudas will play for the provincial gold medal this afternoon at 1 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
The midget Cudas will advance to the playoff round, but the peewee B and bantam B Barracudas fell short of today’s play and have been eliminated.
Earlier Saturday afternoon, the midget Barracudas beat Brooks 16-5 at Henderson Arena
The Cudas midget squad won a pair of games Friday, defeating the Hornets 12-2 and Grande Prairie 17-4.
In the bantam B category, the Barracudas were downed 13-4 by Medcine Hat Saturday night at Henderson Arena to narrowly miss the playoff round.
Earlier in the day, the bantam squad lost 6-4 to Wainwright.
The local Barracudas started provincials with a 143 win over Innisfail Friday morning, but lost 16-3 to the Hornets Friday night.
The peewee B team notched their first win of the weekend Saturday afternoon thanks to a 3-2 edging of Lloydminster1 at the Adams Ice Centre, but lost 7-5 to Medicine Hat Saturday night at the Adams Ice Centre despite erasing a 5-1 deficit to make it a close game.
The peewee Cudas lost a pair of games Friday to the St. Albert Rams (9-6) and the Calgary Sabrecats (9-2).
The midget playoff round kicks off with the third and fourth place game at 11 a.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena, followed by the gold medal game at 1 p.m.
The bantam playoffs get underway at 1 p.m with the third and fourth place game at Henderson, followed by the gold medal game at 3 p.m., also at Henderson.
The peewee playoff round takes place at the Labor Club with the third and fourth place going at 11 a.m. and the gold medal game taking the floor at 12:30 p.m.
