Greed, lust for power destroys democracy

LETTERS

-

The right wing is merely a front for private business interests. The righteous right is not interested in better public service. Business lobby (Chamber of Commerce) is only interested in profit.

This simplistic world view is destroying higher ideals everywhere, with political fraud. Republican rightwingers have undermined the financial markets and the public confidence in the democratic system. This is the end result of their focus on “Greed is good.” Civilization is built on co-operation of people. Business promoters have pushed the philosophy of competition for profits beyond all balance, guided by the self-interest of the rich. Some wealthy people use their money and influence to promote ideas counter to the public good.

History shows over and over how greed and lust for political power destroys democracy. In this “enlightened” age we have a colossal battle between the forces for equality and democracy, and the forces bought by the privatizers for lust of money.

Our civilization depends on whether the public uses the information from technology for equality, or the privatization of wealth. Will we be hypnotized by the “entertainment;” or can the public control tech for the benefit of the majority?

Corporate-owned media is incapable of allowing any social discussion of the kind that might threaten its own core interests. Corporations are driven by profit. We must recognize the nature of the beast.

Manufactured groupthink works to stifle debate to the benefit of the powerful, those promoting the interest of the military-industrial complex. The illegal use of torture to obtain confession by the U.S. military, illegal detainment, and refusal to allow legal representation is public deception. Abusing a child as a prisoner of war needs to be addressed.

Second, we need to remind the military that they serve the public; serve civilian courts. Military have no authority outside government.
