Economic Development Lethbridge (EDL) is hoping to ignite community discussion this fall.

“Ignite Talks” was founded in 2006. Since then, events have taken place in over 350 locations, but this will be a Lethbridge first.

Ignite is a series of quick five-minute presentations; each presenter gets 20 slides that advance every 15 seconds.

The event allows individuals to present their ideas or share their stories with the community.

The mission is to provide individuals with a public speaking platform, with the hopes of building confidence and a sense of community.

EDL said they were searching for a fresh approach to information sharing and felt the Ignite structure aligned with their goal.

“By showcasing interesting and inspiring people within Lethbridge, we can continue to build a reputation as a bright community with forward-thinking solutions,” said Jaylene Ulmer, director of marketing and brand strategy with EDL, in a press release.

Between eight to 10 speakers will be chosen to participate in Ignite YQL 2017. The event will take place at the Enmax Centre on Oct. 26 and tickets are priced at $15 per person.

“We hope to create an opportunity for thought leaders to deliver a passion pitch that inspires others and connects Lethbridge to a global stage through the Ignite community,” said Trevor Lewington, EDL CEO, in a release.

“From past experience as an Ignite presenter, I would say that it’s an interesting and worthwhile challenge to deliver a concise message within this format.”

Applications are currently being accepted for those interested in speaking.
