Man sentenced for attack in Galt Gardens
A “senseless” assault against a Lethbridge man last month has earned his attacker a few weeks behind bars.
The victim walked into Galt Gardens July 31 and sat at a picnic table to listen to some live music that was being performed during an event. While he sat at the table, Tyler Crying Head approached him and without any provocation struck the man twice in the face.
Park security called police and Crying Head was arrested nearby and charged with assault. He pleaded guilty Thursday in Lethbridge provincial court and was sentenced to 60 days in jail, but given credit for time he already spent in custody after his arrest, leaving him with 24 days to serve.
Lethbridge lawyer Claudia Connolly explained Crying Head suffers from Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and requires considerable help with the challenges of day-to-day living. She added he remembers little about the incident.
“He continues to struggle,” Connolly told court. “We don’t have a good excuse for this.”
Judge Gregory Maxwell acknowledged Crying Head’s diminished moral culpability because of his health condition, but he agreed with the jointly recommended sentence of 60 days and said Crying Head’s attack on the unsuspecting victim was a senseless and pointless assault.
