Light agenda today for City Council
Today’s Lethbridge City Council meeting has a fairly short agenda.
There are two presentations scheduled. The first is a request for financial support from Lethbridge College to ensure the success of Coulee Fest, which is scheduled for Sept. 23. Coulee Fest is a free community event concluding its 60th anniversary celebration. The college is requesting $13,000, which is the shortfall in the event’s $37,400 budget.
Next on the agenda, representatives of the SouthGrow Regional Initiative will request that the City of Lethbridge consider Associate Member status.
SouthGrow is a regional economic development alliance initiated in 2004, which included the City of Lethbridge and other local municipalites. However, the City and Lethbridge County withdrew in 2011, due to some changes made by the province. In June 2017, SouthGrow put an associate membership in place that could allow them to work co-operatively with the City, without the City incurring a larger full membership cost.
A submission has also been made requesting a monument be placed outside City Hall to celebrate the relationship between 429 (Transport) Squadron and the City of Lethbridge.
The monument would honour veterans who have served over the past 75 years and act as visible recognition of Lethbridge’s rich military history.
429 (Transport) Squadron has been granted “freedom of the skies” in Lethbridge and has performed a flyover at the Cenotaph in seven of the last nine Remembrance Day ceremonies.
