• Royal Canadian Legion General Stewart Branch No. 4 hosts cribbage

• The Coaldale United Church Thrift Shop (2022 18 St.) is open Thursdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. as a service to the community. Most clothing and shoes at $2. Household items very reasonably priced — Christmas decoration­s, bedding, tablecloth­s, curtains, kitchen items, books, fine china, jewelry and more. Cash only. Come and browse.

• Are you interested in writing? The River Bottom Writers invite you to join them the second and fourth Thursday of every month at 6:45 p.m. in the Richardson Oilseed Room at Lethbridge College for a session of informal writing practice. All genre writers are welcome. Bring pen, paper or laptop.

• Friends of Interfaith Charity Dinner and Silent Auction will take place Sept. 29 at the Italian Canadian Cultural Centre, 1511 St. Edward Blvd. N. Cocktails at 6 p.m., dinner 7 p.m., silent auction throughout. All proceeds go to Interfaith Food Bank Society of Lethbridge. • The Lethbridge Associatio­n of the Blind (LAB) provides numerous activities for the blind and visually impaired in the Lethbridge area. Some of these include dinners with entertainm­ent, attending musicals at the Yates Theatre and tours of local museums. The associatio­n also runs a bowling league which takes place weekly at the Holiday Bowl. • The 28th Annual Giant Pumpkin Festival and Auction in support of Children’s Wish Foundation, Lethbridge and area, will take place Sept. 30 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Green Haven Garden Centre. Activities for kids and families; each child’s $5 wrist band includes access to face painting, Astro Jump, games, petting zoo and horse-drawn wagon rides. For an additional $5, express your creativity in the Pumpkin Craft Corner. Parking and gate entry free of charge. Pumpkins available to purchase by donation. Also a cash concession with hotdogs, French fries, beverages and pumpkin pie. Weight-in of giant pumpkins at 10 a.m., awards at 12:30. • Lethbridge Astronomy Society will hold a public viewing night and open house Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Oldman River Observator­y in Popson Park. The society holds public viewing nights the last Saturday of the month, September through March (except December), weather permitting. • Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organizati­on will offer Yin Yoga Mondays, Oct. 2-Dec. 11 (no class Oct. 9) from 9-10:30 a.m. at LSCO, 500 11 St. S. Yin Yoga focuses on the joints and connective tissue, especially in the hips, lower back and spine. Fee: $85 for LSCO members, $125 for non-members. • The University of Lethbridge Students' Union presents its 2017 academic speaker series special guest speaker, Ian Campeau, joined by student wellness expert Nova Browning Rutherford, Oct. 5 at noon in the 1st Choice Savings Centre gymnasium. Campeau will open the talk with his own story, followed by a mediated discussion alongside Browning Rutherford, and ending with a Q&A from the audience. • The Coats for Kids & Families campaign continues until Oct. 20, accepting gently used winter-wear for families in need in the community. Accepted items include coats, snowpants, mitts, scarves, gently used snow boots and new hats. Items can be dropped off at United Way of Lethbridge and Southweste­rn Alberta, 1277 3 Ave. S.; KPMG LLP, 500, 400 4 Ave. S.; or Lethbridge TD Canada Trust branches (Lethbridge Centre, College Centre or West Highlands).

• The Chinook Society for Recovering Addicts, a not-for-profit registered society with charitable status, makes its renovated facility at 408 13 St. N. available as a meeting room space to 12step groups as well as other groups or organizati­ons. Each of the three available rooms includes tables, chairs, commercial coffee maker and sink. There is a centrally located locker room for group supplies as well as central men’s and women’s washrooms. The facility has central HVAC, is smoke free and wheelchair accessible.
