Coyotes girls volleyball team stays undefeated

The Chinook Coyotes girls team improved to 5-0 during Southern Alberta High School Volleyball League action Wednesday night.

The Coyotes hosted the Raymond Comets and posted a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-17, 25-22) to remain undefeated, while the Comets (0-4) look for their first win.

For Chinook, Lauren Follett hit for six kills, one block and three aces.

Abi Gruenhage added eight kills and two aces for the Coyotes and Jade Mierau chipped in with four kills, one block and two aces.

In other action Wednesday, the Catholic Central Cougars also stayed undefeated, defeating the Cardston Cougars 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-20) to move to 4-0.

Sam Mikado and Makayla Koshita each had four kills and two blocks and Khloe Jankowiak added five kills and five aces.

Catholic Central won the junior varsity game 2-0 (25-16, 25-13).

At LCI, the Clippers swept the Coaldale Kate Andrews Pride 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-18) to improve to 3-0.

LCI also won the junior varsity game, posting a 2-0 decision (25-13, 25-17).

The Winston Churchill Griffins moved to 4-0 on the season thanks to a sweep over the Magrath Zeniths in three straight, but close, sets.

The Griffins won the first set 27-25 and the second set 26-24 before completing the sweep with a 25-20 win. The Zeniths are now 2-2 with the loss.

For the Zeniths, Maile Funa led the way with eight kills and two blocks.

Lauren Platz chipped in with six kills for the Griffins to go along with one ace and Maiya Clapton added three kills, one block and two aces.

The Picture Butte Sugar Queens earned a win on the road Wednesday night, topping the Immanuel Christian Eagles 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-14) to move to 3-2.

In the junior varsity game, the Eagles won 2-1 (25-21, 1625, 15-11).

In boys play Wednesday, the Cardston Cougars earned their first win of the season to improve to 1-2.

The Cougars hosted the Immanuel Christian Eagles (03) and posted a 3-1 win (20-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-22).

Cardston won the junior varsity game 2-1 (25-18, 22-25, 13-7).
