Canes off to Edmonton
After splitting their home-and-home, season-opening series with the Medicine Hat Tigers, the Lethbridge Hurricanes look to climb back above .500 in the early-going of the Western Hockey League season.
That will begin with another home-and-home series starting tonight in Edmonton as the 1-1 Canes head north to face the 0-2 Oil Kings.
The Hurricanes sent 5,000plus fans home happy last Friday when they downed the Tigers 5-2 in their season opener at the Enmax Centre, but were unable to make it a sweep over their rivals from down the highway as the Tigers returned the favour Saturday night in Medcine Hat with a 40 blanking.
Though there was no scoring to be had in Saturday night’s rematch in Medicine Hat, the Hurricanes nonetheless got a two-goal, one-assist performance from second-year forward Jadon Joseph in Friday’s win, while Josh Tarzwell added a pair of helpers.
Newly-crowned captain Giorgio Estephan, added a goal and an assist in last Friday’s win.
The Oil Kings started the season with 7-3 and 5-3 losses to the Red Deer Rebels Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Through two games, they have been led by Trey FixWolansky with one goal and three assists, while defenceman Will Warm has added three assists.
There will be a pair of new faces in the Hurricanes lineup with forwards Jack Flaman and Zach Cox — acquired Wednesday — making their debuts.
Tonight’s game is at 7 p.m. before the back half of the home-and-home tilt returns to Lethbridge Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Enmax Centre.
