Kodiaks face Rattlers in rematch

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

The rivalry on the soccer pitch resumes this weekend for the Lethbrige College Kodiaks soccer teams.

After a two-game schedule on the road and back at home last weekend, the Kodiaks are back at the Servus Sports Centre Saturday when the Medicine Hat Rattlers pay a visit.

For the Kodiak men (2-12), their 2-1 loss to the Rattlers Sept. 16 in Medicine Hat will no doubt be fresh on their mind as the Rattlers scored in extra time for a 2-1 win, a game in which two Kodiaks players were ejected.

Heading into the weekend, the Kodiaks are in third place in the South Division, two points back of the Rattlers and five back of the 4-0-1 SAIT Trojans.

A win Saturday will move the Kodiaks ahead of the Rattlers.

Wilson Ntignee leads the Kodiaks with three goals in five games, while Jimmy Bukuru and Peter Ntignee have two goals each in four games.

The Kodiaks women (1-31) head into this weekend not only seeking to snap a three-game losing streak, but also to remain in the postseason chase.

The team is 1-3-1 and six points back of Medicine Hat and the Olds College Bronocs for the final playoff spot.

They’ll contend with the 31-1 Rattlers, who defeated the Kodiaks 4-1 in the teams’ Sept. 16 meeting.

Vicki Noronha leads the Kodiaks this season with four of the teams five goals.

The women’s game is at noon followed by the men’s contest at 2 p.m.

Admission is free for all Kodiaks soccer games.
