Cougars serve up win over the Eagles

The Catholic Central Cougars varsity girls downed the Immanuel Christian Eagles in Southern Alberta High School Volleyball League play Thursday night.

The Cougars headed to Immanuel Christan and posted a 3-0 win (25-8, 25-14, 25-15) as Sam Mikado led Catholic Central with eight kills, one block and three aces, while teammate Ashley Sazalski had three kills, two blocks and three aced.

For Immanuel Christian, Jenna Jonker had one kill and four blocks and Madilyn Notenbomer had three kills.

Catholic Central won the junior varsity game 2-0 (25-17, 25-13).

In Picture Butte Thursday night, the Winston Churchill Griffins and the Sugar Queens went the distance before the Griffins eked out the win (15-25, 25-23, 25-12, 19-25, 15-9).

Maile Funa mashed 25 kills for Winston Churchill to go along with five blocks and two aces. Candace Chan contribute­d with seven kills, three blocks and three aces for the Griffins.

The Sugar Queens won the junior varsity game 2-1 (19-25, 25-11, 15-2).

In Taber, the Coaldale Kate Andrews Pride beat the St. Mary’s Auroras 3-2 (25-15, 12-25, 25-16, 16-25, 15-12) in varsity action.

The Raymond Comets were victorious at home, thanks to a 3-0 win (27-25, 25-19, 25-23) win over the Cardston Cougars.

For the Comets, Kansas Long had 15 kills and three aces and Gracie Heggie added eight kills and four aces.

Raymond won the junior varsity game 2-0 (25-19, 25-16).

In Magrath, the LCI Clippers defeated the Pandas 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-23).

Shalisa Heninger had five kills and two blocks for Magrath and Sage Finck added four kills.

In boys league play Thursday, the Catholic Central Cougars blanked the Kate Andrews Pride 3-0 in Coaldale (25-20, 25-8, 25-17).

Catholic Central also won the JV game 2-0 (25-18, 25-12).
