• The Miners Days Historical Association of Coalhurst will host a Fall Craft Sale on Oct. 14 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Coalhurst Community , Centre, 527 50 Ave. There will be handicrafters, multilevel marketers, and some gently used children’s clothing and toys.
• McKillop United Church Annual Fall Fair will take place Oct. 14 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at 2329 15 Ave. S., featuring a garage sale as well as used books, used toys, homemade baking, freshly made fruit-crisp and take-home pizza. A Kids Fun Fair starts at 10 a.m. with a balloon artist, face painting, craft, games and cotton candy. Food concession will serve popcorn, hot dogs, and pop. Or come to Trevor’s Breakfast hosted by Reverend Trevor Potter; the breakfast is by donation and will run from 8-10 a.m. A Country Luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m.1 p.m. (by donation).
• Galt Museum’s Saturdays at 1:00 hands-on history program for families will continue Oct. 14 from 1-2 p.m. with “Paper Tepees.” Make a paper teepee and find out more about teepees from the Galt’s Kainai Interpreter Blanche Bruisedhead. Admission fees apply (includes exhibit access); free to annual pass holders.
• Six O’clock in the Chapel, an evening Vesper service with beautiful music, will be held Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel at Southminster United Church, featuring reflections by Rev. James Grunden; musical guest is Monica Baczuk, flute. This brief, intimate service is open to everyone. Please enter at the chapel doors, 1011 4 Ave. S. • Trigeminal Neuralgia Support Group meets the second Saturday of the month at 2 p.m. in Room C and D at the LSCO, 500 11 St. S. Trigeminal neuralgia is a neuropathic disorder characterized by episodes of intense pain in the face, originating from the trigeminal nerve. Individuals with TN and their family members are invited to attend meetings. • Galt Museum will host a Special Family Program for all ages Oct. 15 from 2-4 p.m., featuring “Ice Cream Social.” Come make and enjoy your own ice cream! You’ll also find out about the history of this delicious treat and Emilio Picariello’s ice cream business. Admission fees apply (includes exhibit access); free to annual pass holders.
• Shaughnessy Community Association will hold its monthly Classic Country Jam Session and Supper (cost is $10) Oct. 15. Jam starts at 1 p.m., supper at 5 p.m. For information call Dorothy at 403-381-3589.
• Narcotics Anonymous meets Sundays at 7 p.m. at Chinook Meeting Hall, 408 13 St. N. • Southminster United Church’s next monthly labyrinth event will take place Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m., led by Veriditas certified facilitator Nancy Fabro. A handout on labyrinth terminology to help understand the basics about labyrinths will be provided; followed by a meditative walk. • The Lethbridge Symphony will present its 2017-18 season-opening concert, “Series I - The Lark Ascending,” Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Southminster United Church, with works by Shostakovich and Ralph Vaughan Williams, featuring violinist Airdrie Robinson. • Bridge City Bells is a community choir whose members ring English hand bells. The choir meets Mondays at First Baptist Church (17 Street and 5 Avenue South) from 1:15-2:45 p.m. They are in need of a few new ringers; no experience or musical background is necessary and all are welcome to join. • The Lethbridge Public Library’s annual Foreign Film Festival runs Oct. 1620 at 7 p.m. each night in the Theatre Gallery. Free admission. Oct. 20: “A Man Called Ove,” 2016, Sweden, PG – Based on the bestselling book of the same name by Frederick Backman, this feelgood movie is about a curmudgeonly old man with strict principles. • YWCA’s “Week Without Violence” will take place Oct. 16-21 with events at various locations. The schedule includes:
Oct. 16 - Protecting Our Children - Parents are invited to the YWCA between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. for tips on keeping their children safe with exclusive Personal Safety Plans and a free Child ID kit; Oct. 17 YWise Guys Boys Conference - For the second year, boys in grades 9-12 will meet to challenge harmful ideas of manhood that can lead to abuse; students register through their schools; Oct. 18 Power of Being a Girl Conference - annual violence-prevention conference for girls in grades 9-12 focusing on self-esteem, health relationships, internet safety and more; students register through their schools; Oct. 19 Books Build Better Brains - Free books for all pre-schoolers, as well as fun activities and snacks; YWCA from 9:30 a.m. to noon; Oct. 19 - Safer Communities Information Session - Learn how to make your home safer and discourage unwanted behaviour around your property; 7 p.m. at YWCA; Oct. 20 - Take Back the Night - Walk from Galt Gardens (Rotary Plaza) to YWCA to raise awareness about violence against women and girls; gather at 6:30 p.m. at Galt Gardens, the march starts at 7 p.m. followed by free cookies and cocoa at YWCA; Oct. 21 Personal Protection Program Demonstration Learn to evaluate and survive threatening situations; YWCA gymnasium Ages 12-17: 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; Ages 18+: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; $50/person or 2 for $80; register in person at YWCA.

• Innovation Collective will hold its monthly fireside chat Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Casa, 230 8 St. S. Jeremy Gook will give a presentation on Operation Underground Railroad. O.U.R., as it’s also known, paves the way for permanent eradication of child sex trafficking. Find out how you can help, and see how close it is even in our own communities.
• Playgoers of Lethbridge dinner theatre production of “The Savannah Sipping Society,” a comedy by Jessie Jones, Nicolas Hope and Jamie Wooten, will take place Oct. 17-21 at Country Kitchen Catering. • Probus Club of Lethbridge meets Oct. 18 at 9:30 a.m. at the lower level of The Keg (wheelchair accessible) on Mayor Magrath Drive South. Guest speaker Rod Mattice, a public health inspector with Alberta Health Services, will make a presentation on food sanitation and hygiene. All visitors are welcome.
• A Coffee House for International Day of the Girl will take place Oct. 19 from 7-8:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1614 5 Ave. S. The public is invited to come for music, refreshments and a penny auction, and hear about Days for Girls kit delivery in Zambia and other local initiatives to help girls.
• The Gem of the West Arts and Culture Committee will host its annual Art Show and Sale Oct. 28 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Oct. 29, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. at the Gem of the West Museum, 1306 20 St., Coaldale. Artists: book your table for $15. Contact Tammy at tutortammy.trelenberg@gmail.com.
• Crossroads Healing Centre will hold its “Attitude of Gratitude Dinner” Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. at the Lethbridge Lodge Hotel and Convention Centre. Tickets are complimentary but there will be an opportunity to make a donation in order to raise $75,000 towards programming and counselling services. Only 300 tickets are available.
