Horns hoping to secure playoff berth

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

As the Canada West heads into its final two weeks, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s soccer team heads west looking to lock up a playoff berth.

The Pronghorns face the Thompson Rivers WolfPack today and conclude the trip Sunday in Kelowna against the UBCO Heat, two wins clinching a playoff berth for the second time in the last three seasons.

Offensively, the trio of Lindsay Amatto, Nikki Furukawa and Kayla Blacquiere continue to provide the bulk of the team’s scoring.

Amatto leads the team with five goals, while Furukawa has three goals and Blacquiere has two goals and two assists this season.

Both games are 2 p.m., local time and will be webcast on http://canadawest.yaretv .com.

The Pronghorns will return home next weekend to host the Alberta Pandas and Mount Royal Cougars in the final home games of the 2017 Canada West regular season.

On the men’s side, the Horns also hit the road this weekend, travelling to Calgary to face the Mount Royal Cougars and Calgary Dinos.

Though not mathematically out of the post season, the 2-8-2 Horns will need a pair of wins this weekend in addition to getting some out-of-town help during the final weekend of Canada West play.

Coming off their bye week, the Pronghorns lost both games two weeks ago, losing home games to the Alberta Golden Bears and MacEwan Griffins.

Fifth-year midfielder Dominique Point du Jour and Stephen Primeau lead the Pronghorns with three goals and three assists each.

The Pronghorns will face the Cougars Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and will take on the Dinos Sunday at 2:15 p.m.
