Pray the rosary for world peace

- Paul Jones Coaldale

As we read in the newspapers and watch the news on TV the hostility between President Kim JongUn and President Donald Trump, the threat of war is inevitable in the near future, unless we pray the rosary daily or pray to God any other type of prayers.

October is Our Lady of the Rosary month and most Catholics pray the rosary. This commemorative feast was established by Pope Pius V on the anniversary of naval victory won by the Christian fleet at Lepanto, Oct 7, 1571. The victory was attributed to the help of the holy Mother of God whose aid was invoked through praying the rosary. The celebration of this day invites all to meditate upon the mysteries of Christ, following the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary who was so singularly associated with the incarnation, passion and glorious resurrection of the Son of God.

The praying of the rosary also helps in many other ways. When Waterton Lakes National Park wildfires occured we prayed the rosary daily and prayed at mealtime to control the fire from entering the townsite.

We prayed the rosary daily for the B.C. wildfires, the Fort MacMurray wildfires, and all the calamities in the world including Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria, Jose and the earthquakes in Mexico. When we resided in the northern mining community of Uranium, Sask., a forest fire was creeping towards the townsite. We prayed the rosary all night and were saved because the wind shifted and the fire turned the other way.

There were many calamities, both natural and man-made, that have saved us from the perils of destruction throughout the ages by praying the rosary every day.
