A Standoff man who beat up a woman with whom he was drinking last March, then attacked another man for no reason several months later, will spend some time behind bars.

Waylon Aylmer Oka pleaded guilty Wednesday in Lethbridge provincial court to two counts of assault and one count of breaching court orders and was sentenced to three months in jail.

Oka was drinking with a woman in Standoff March 30 when she told him to leave. She thought he had left, but when she went into her bedroom, he entered the room, as well. He grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to the floor then punched and kicked her.

The woman managed to get away and retreat toward the door, but when she ordered Oka out of the house again, he repeated his attack, pulling her to the ground and kicking and punching her.

At the time of the incident, Oka was under court orders not to have any contact with the woman if he had been drinking.

Four months later a Standoff resident was asleep in his home when he was awakened by a knock on his door. When he opened the door Oka was standing there and without any warning started punching the man in the face and head, knocking him to the ground where he kicked him in the body and head. Oka then ran away.

The victim, court was told, had no idea why Oka came to the house or why he was attacked.

Although sentenced to 90 days, Oka was given credit for the equivalent of 18 days he already spent in custody, leaving 72 days on his sentence.
