Donation to aid YMCA kids’ program

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

Southland Trailers and Lethbridge Truck Equipment recently donated $5,000 to assist the Lethbridge YMCA with its work to give kids a strong, healthy start.

On Aug. 23, during WhoopUp Days, Southland Trailers and Lethbridge Truck Equipment hosted its second annual pancake breakfast and raised $2,000 from donations. On top of that, the company not only matched but exceeded the donation, bringing it to a grand total of $5,000.

One hundred per cent of the proceeds will be going to the YMCA Strong Kids program, with the donation made to the YMCA in Lethbridge. The campaign raises funds so youth and families are able to access YMCA programs and services in Lethbridge.

The YMCA believes that every child deserves a strong, healthy start, regardless of their circumstances. They also give children in Lethbridge and surrounding area the opportunity to belong to a supportive community while improving their physical, mental, emotional, and social health. The facility welcomes 550 local children, teens, and young adults in need of financial support every year.

Organizers said the fundraising campaign wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the Calgary Stampede Batter Boys and live music provided by the band Hurtin’.

“With their co-operation, next year we hope to make this an even bigger event to raise money for local organizations,” the company said in an email. “Thank you all to the supporters, donations, volunteers and co-ordinators! We’ll see you all next year!”
