AAA Canes stay hot

-

The Lethbridge Midget AAA Hurricanes wrapped up an undefeated month of October during Alberta Midget Hockey League action last weekend.

In a pair of home games at Nicholas Sheran Arena, the Canes defeated the Leduc Chrysler Oil Kings 6-4 on Saturday in a wild six-goal third period comeback then skated to a 3-3 draw with the Okotoks Bow Mark Oilers Sunday afternoon.

With the win and tie, the Hurricanes up their undefeated streak to 10 games, going 8-0-2 in October and improving to 8-1-2 on the season and in second place in the Chrysler Division, one point back of the 9-0-1 Calgary Buffaloes, who the Canes tied 3-3 the weekend before.

The Hurricanes undefeated streak seemed in jeopardy in Saturday’s game against the Oil Kings as Leduc held a 4-0 lead after two periods.

But three goals in a little under five minutes in the first half of the third from Zack Stringer, Kadyn Chabot and Ridly Greig cut the lead to 4-3.

Lethbridge then struck for three goals in the final 2:53 as Daniel Anton tied it, Ronan Seeley netted the winner with 1:28 to go and Stringer added his second of the game with one second to go.

Greig and Seeley added three assists each for fourpoint afternoons and Stringer added one helper for three points.

Chabot had an assist for a two-point afternoon.

Carl Tetachuk got the start for the Canes before Byron Fancy came in midway through the first, making eight saves the rest of the way for the win.

On Sunday, Greig scored the first two goals for Lethbridge and Nicholas Draffin added the other Hurricanes goal and added an assist.

Tetachuk made 27 saves in the tie.

The Canes look to extend their undefeated streak this weekend when they head north to Sherwood Park to take on the J.Ennis Kings.
