Local skaters compete in Sectionals

The 2018 Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut Sectional Championsh­ips hit the ice last weekend at the ATB Centre.

Members of the Southern Alberta Skating Academy and the Lethbridge Skating Club took part in the event, which featured 257 skaters ranging from age 10 pre-juvenile category to more experience­d skaters.

Ava Martin and Austen Franz of the Southern Alberta Skating Academy placed first in Juvenile Pairs (Exhibition) and Connor Chan, also from the Southern Alberta Skating Academy, placed third in Juvenile Men U-14.

Fellow Southern Alberta Skating Academy athlete Austen Franz was seventh in Pre-Novice Men.

Ava Martin of the Southern Alberta Skating Academy placed 14th in the PreJuvenil­e Ladies U-11 division, while Elizabeth Davis of the Lethbridge Skating Club took 12th in the Juvenile Ladies U12 category.

In the Juvenile Ladies U-14 division, Madison Martin of the Southern Alberta Skating Academy placed 20th and Romy Malcolm of the Lethbridge Skating Club took 26th in the Juvenile Ladies U14 category.

In other local results, Kyra Piekema (Lethbridge Skating Club) was 37th in Juvenile Ladies U-14 and Brynley Gross of Calalta — who trains at Southern Alberta Skating Academy — was 30th in the Pre-Novice Ladies division.
