AAA Canes extend unbeaten streak

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

The Lethbridge midget AAA Hurricanes not only maintained their winning ways, they only surrendered one goal on their weekend road trip.

On a swing through the north, the Canes blanked the Sherwood Park J. Ennis Kings 4-0 Saturday and then headed to Grande Prairie Sunday, where they topped the Grande Peace Ernies Sports Storm 3-1 in Alberta Midget Hockey League action.

The 2-0 weekend not only increases the Hurricanes undefeated streak to 12 games after an 8-0-2 October, it ups the team’s record to 101-2. That puts the Canes in second place in the Chrysler Division, one point behind the 11-0-1 Calgary Buffaloes.

On Saturday in Sherwood Park, the Hurricanes scored once in the second period and added three more in the third while Carl Tetachuk stopped 11 shots for the shutout.

Ridly Greig scored in the second for Lethbridge and added two assists. Kadyn Chabot, Carson Dyck and Zack Stringer added the Canes third-period goals.

Chabot added an assist for two points and Ronan Seeley added two helpers.

On Sunday in Grande Prairie, Nicholas Draffin scored in the first period and Kye Buchanan and Stringer scored in the second to complete the 2-0 weekend.

Seeley had two more assists Sunday for a four-point weekend, while affiliated player Dawsen Savage made 21 saves.

The Hurricanes return home this weekend, starting Saturday when they host the MLAC Beverly Optimists at 6:15 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena.

They return to action Sunday when they take on the Airdrie CFR Bisons, also at Nicholas Sheran Arena, at 2:45 p.m.
