Golden Hawks keep pace in AMBHL South Division

The Lethbridge Val Matteotti bantam AAA Golden Hawks earned a road win and a tie at home during Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League play last weekend.

The Golden Hawks hit the road to Okotoks Saturday where they defeated the Oilers 5-1 and returned home Sunday, where they skated to a 4-4 tie with the Airdrie Xtreme in a battle of the top two teams in the Ram South Division.

The win and the tie move the Golden Hawks to 9-3-3 on the season and into second place in the Ram South Division, one point back of the 9-1-4 Xtreme.

In Okotoks on Saturday, the Golden Hawks got two goals from Joel Mabin, while Cole Larocque, Rylan Bruns and Nolan Price added the other Lethbridge goals.

Larocque and Bruns each had an assist for two points and Brody Tallman added two assists.

Erick Roest stopped 21 shots in the win.

In Sunday’s tie with the Xtreme, Conner Furukawa led the way with a hat trick as the Golden Hawks scored twice in the third period to secure the tie.

Price added the other Lethbridge goal and drew assists on all three of Furukawa’s goals for a four-point game.

Syprus Ives added two assists and Tyler Palmer made 28 saves.

The Golden Hawks are home Wednesday night when they host the Medicine Hat Southeast Tigers at 6:30 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran.
