Another adjournment in murder case

The lawyer for a 52-year-old man accused in the beating death of a woman in September is still unable to make any significant progress in the case while she waits for disclosure from the Crown’s office.

Claudia Connolly requested another adjournment Tuesday in Lethbridge provincial court, where she told the judge she is expecting the bulk of disclosure from the Crown this week, and will still need time to review the information with the accused.

Rodney Yellow Old Woman, who appeared in court by closed-circuit TV from the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the deadly assault against the victim.

An officer patrolling in the area of the 400 block of 6 Avenue South about 3:30 p.m. Sept. 16 stopped an assault in the parking lot of the Multicultural Centre. EMS were called and a 48year-old woman was taken to hospital where she died a short time later. Police reported the victim and her assailant knew each other and the incident was not random.

During a hearing in October court was told defence had only received a brief narrative from the Crown’s office and still needed a medical and autopsy report before it could decide how best to proceed with the case.

Yellow Old Woman is scheduled to return to court Nov. 21, where he will appear by CCTV.
