Basketball players sweep Horn weekly honours

Men’s and women’s basketball again swept the Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week honours for the week ending Nov. 5.

The men’s male athlete honour went to Zac Overwater. The fourth-year forward led the way, combining to score 33 points, as the Pronghorns completed a road sweep of the MacEwan Griffins and moved to 4-0 on the Canada West season.

In the opener, Overwater picked up 13 points on an efficient five-of-seven shooting to help the Pronghorns to a 101-87 win. He also recorded five rebounds, three assists and two blocks in the win.

Saturday afternoon, Overwater record a doubledoub­le to lead the Horns to the sweep with a game-high 20 points to go along with 14 rebounds in a convincing 9865 win. Overwater hit six-of-10 shots including two from long range.

On the season, Overwater is second in team scoring with 16 points per game and leads the Pronghorns in rebounding with 7.5 boards a game.

The women’s female athlete of the week is Danielle Fritzke. Coming off the bench, the fourth-year guard was the spark offensivel­y the Pronghorns needed as they remained perfect in conference games, sweeping the MacEwan Griffins on the road.

On Friday, Fritzke scored all of her points from long range, hitting six three-pointers to lead the team with 18 points in the Pronghorns 69-53 win. She also added three rebounds and an assist.

The next day, the Medicine Hat product picked up another 14 points on five-of-10 shooting, including three more from behind the arc.

Through four conference games, Fritzke sits second in scoring on the Pronghorns, averaging 11 points.

This week, the Pronghorn men and women take on the Mount Royal Cougars in a home-and-home series, starting Thursday night in Lethbridge at the 1st Choice Savings Centre. Game time for the women is 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 p.m.
