Canes look to snap skid

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

Before they head out on an extended road swing, the Lethbridge Hurricanes will try to make sure they don’t take a pesky losing streak with them.

The Canes host the Spokane Chiefs in Western Hockey League action tonight at the Enmax Centre at 7 p.m.

Having gone 0-3-1-0 in their last four games, the Hurricanes (7-8-1-0) will try to get back to the .500 mark they’ve been flirting with in the early going of the season before hitting the road for a six-game trek that starts in Saskatchewan before heading through B.C.

To do that, they’ll have to get through a 8-71-2 Chiefs team that has also gone winless in its last four (0-2-1-1), but got a major shot in the arm earlier this week when the Edmonton Oilers reassigned 19-year-old forward Kailer Yamamoto to the team. He will be available for tonight’s game.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes will have veteran goaltender Stuart Skinner back in the lineup fresh off his experience at the Canada/Russia series earlier this week.

However, they’ll still be without rookie forward Dylan Cozens, who is still in northern B.C. suiting up with Team Canada Red at the World Under-17 Challenge.

As of Thursday night, Team Canada Red was playing Team Canada Black in the quarter-final in Fort St. John.

The Hurricanes start their road trip Saturday in Swift Current against the Broncos.

The trek then heads due west, starting Friday in Kelowna against the Rockets, before swinging through Kamloops, Victoria, Vancouver and Kootenay.

The Hurricanes next home game is Nov. 28 when the Portland Winterhawks visit to the Enmax Centre.
