Gwynne Dyer speaking at library

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

A popular political columnist and author will be in Lethbridge this week.

Gwynne Dyer is coming to the Lethbridge Public Library’s Main Branch on Thursday for a free 6 p.m. presentation in the Theatre Gallery.

Dyer will be presenting “The Trump Era: Surviving the Populist Wave.” There will also be a question and answer session at the end of the presentation.

“Populists have recently started coming to power in major democratic countries,” Dyer said in a news release.

“They haven’t done anything truly frightening yet, but they talk about pulling the whole temple down. They are hostile to international institutions, to alliances, to free trade, to regional organizations like the EU, to all the familiar political furniture of the past 50–75 years. What’s to come in the years ahead and what impact will it have? Are we all doomed?”

“If you read Gwynne Dyer’s column on a regular basis in the Lethbridge Herald, you’re one of many, many readers, as his website notes, his columns are published by over 175 papers in some 45 countries,” LPL officials said in a news release.

Dyer’s latest book, “Surviving the Populist Wave,” is scheduled for publication this December. Dyer has worked as a freelance journalist, columnist, broadcaster and lecturer on international affairs for more than 20 years.
