Horns hoopsters face big test

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s and women’s basketball teams will break out the figurative measuring sticks this weekend.

The 8-0 Horns teams will put their blistering start to the Canada West season on the line as they head to Regina to take on the Cougars tonight and Saturday in Canada West action.

On the women’s side, the Horns head to Regina to face their stiffest test in the nationally No. 1-ranked Cougars.

Following a 2-0 weekend in Kamloops over the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack last weekend, the Pronghorns are 8-0 for the first time in the program’s history and are ranked third in Canada West, scoring 76.3 points per game, and third defensively, allowing 60.6 points against.

Pronghorns guard Kacie Bosch is averaging 12 points per game as well as 5.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists.

Senior guard Zoe Dahl sits second in team scoring with 10.8 points, while Danielle Fritzke has continued coming off the bench, averaging 10.3 points per game.

The Pronghorn men’s team faces an equally hot Regina Cougars squad for a pair of games.

The Horns moved to 8-0 for only the second time in the program’s history following two wins in Kamloops last weekend.

Senior guard Dejon Burdeaux has been a force all over the court this season.

Burdeaux is third in Canada West scoring, averaging 22.8 points per game and leads the team in rebounding with 8.1 per game. He is also second in assists with 3.3 per game and leads the Canada West in steals with 26.

Zac Overwater and Saren Westrop sit second and third on the Pronghorns with 15.9 and 15.6 points. respectively.

Kyle Peterson leads the team in assists with 4.9 to go along with 14.6 points per game.

The Pronghorns boast the second-ranked offence in Canada West, averaging 95.8 points per night. Defensively they sit 11th in Canada West, giving up 82.3 points per game.

Game time tonight is 5 p.m. for the women with the men to follow at 7 p.m.

Both games will also be streamed live on
