Kodiaks wrap up first half

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s and women’s basketball teams complete the front half of their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference schedule at home tonight.

As they get set to head into the holiday break, the Kodiaks host the Ambrose Lions in ACAC action tonight at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.

After a 1-1 split on the road last weekend, the 4-2 Kodiaks men’s team looks to head into the break three games above the .500 mark while the 2-4 women’s team looks to take another step toward that mark.

The Kodiak men’s team beat Olds in the first of their two-game road swing north last weekend, but were handed a loss at the hands of the Red Deer Kings Saturday.

That split puts them in third in the ACAC South Division and 13th in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association rankings.

Keanu Funa leads the Kodiaks in points-per-game average with 16.6, good for 15th in the league.

Michael Clemons is tied for second in the league in stealsper-game with three and sits in the top-five alongside teammate Pierce Van Gaalen in three-point shooting.

The Lions (3-4) have six points and are in a three-way tie for fourth place in the division.

The Kodiaks women head into tonight’s game having snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over the Queens last weekend in Red Deer.

That puts them in fifth place in the ACAC South Division as the Kodiaks look to end the 2017 portion of their season with a win over the 1-6 Lions.

Fifth-year veteran Amy Arbon has been averaging 10.8 points-per-game to lead the Kodiaks.

Shayna Mathison is fifth in the ACAC in rebounding, averaging 9.8 boards per game.

The women’s game goes at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for seniors, youth and alumni, $3 for Lethbridge College employees and free for Lethbridge College students.
