Volleyball provincial­s heading into final day

The Chinook Coyotes will go for fifth place at the Alberta Schools Athletic Associatio­n 4A girls volleyball provincial­s in Medicine Hat.

The Coyotes were defeated 31 by Jasper Place during quarter-final action Friday afternoon.

Chinook advanced to the quarter-final thanks to a 3-2 win over Lloydminst­er Comprehens­ive High School Friday morning.

The Coyotes take on Medicine Hat High School this morning at 9 a.m. with the winner advancing to the fifthplace game at 5 p.m.

The Catholic Central Cougars boys will also play for fifth place when action resumes today.

The Cougars were blanked 30 by Jasper Place Friday night and will face Edmonton Christian at 9 a.m. today in the consolatio­n semifinal.

Catholic Central started Friday’s play with a 3-0 win over Lloydminst­er Comprehens­ive to advance to play Jasper Place.

In the 3A boys provincial­s in Strathmore Friday, the LCI Rams are 4-0 after the second day.

The Rams started Friday with a 2-1 win (25–19, 18–25, 15–13) over Barrhead Composite and followed that with a 2-0 victory (25–16, 25–18) over H.J. Cody High.

LCI wrapped up the day with a 2-1 win over Cochrane High School (20–25, 25–15, 15–7).

The Magrath Zeniths started the day with a 2-0 loss (16–25, 13–25) to the number-one ranked Morinville Community High, but rebounded in their second game and moved to 2-1 with a 2-1 win (26–24, 24–26, 15–7) over St. Paul Regional High.

Magrath finished Friday’s play at 2-2 following a 2-1 loss (27–25, 23–25, 10–15) to Louis St. Laurent.

The Rams face Grande Prairie Peace Wapiti Academy at 8:30 a.m. today.

The Zeniths are back in action at 11 a.m. when they take on St. Martin de Porres.

At the 3A girls provincial­s in Sylvan Lake, the LCI Clippers are 3-1 after Friday’s action.

LCI began the day with a 2-0 win over Camrose (25–13, 25– 15) and followed that up with another 2-0 win (25–10, 25–14) Friday afternoon, this one over Barrhead.

But the Clippers were handed their first loss of the weekend in their last game Friday, losing 20 (19–25, 16–25) to Cochrane High School.

Fellow South Zone representa­tive Eagle Butte kicked off Friday with a 2-0 win (25–20, 25–11) over Strathmore and improved to 2-1 with a 2-0 win over H.J. Cody (25–20, 25– 22) in the afternoon.

Eagle Butte capped off a 3-0 Saturday with a 2-1 win (23–25, 25–20, 15–12) over Edmonton Christian and are also 3-1 heading into today’s play.

Eagle Butte starts today against Bowness at 8:30 a.m., while the Clippers square off against St. Paul at 11 a.m.

In Taber at the 2A boys provincial­s, the Immanuel Christian Eagles are 4-0 after Day 2 of action.

Immanuel opened Friday with a 2-1 win (25–20, 15–25, 15–13) over J.R. Robson High and moved to 3-0 with a 2-0 win (25–21, 25–17) over host Taber St. Mary’s.

They finished the day’s action with a 2-0 decision (32– 30, 25–20) over Strathcona­Tweedsmuir School.

St. Mary’s started Friday’s action with 2-0 loss to Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (28–30, 11–25) before losing to the Eagles to fall to 0-3.

But the hosts earned their first win in the evening draw thanks to a 2-0 win (25–20, 25– 22 over Calgary Rundle College.

The Picture Butte Sugar Kings are 1-3 after Friday’s action.

The Sugar Kings were defeated 2-1 by Parkland Composite (25–17, 21–25, 15– 17) and 2-0 (17–25, 25–27) by West Island College.

In the 5:45 p.m. draw, Picture Butte lost 2-1 to Christ the King (20–25, 25–19, 16–14).

The Sugar Kings are back in action this morning at 9 when they take on Pigeon Lake, while the Eagles face Rundle College at 10:15 a.m.

St. Mary’s takes the court against Our Lady of Mount Pleasant at 11:30 a.m.

The 2A girls provincial­s in Fairview headed into its second day Friday.

The Vauxhall Vi-Queens kept up their winning ways Friday, starting with a 2-0 win (25–22, 28–26) over Vegreville Composite and followed that up with a 2-0 decision (25–21, 25–18) over the Georges P. Vanier High Vipers to sit at a perfect 4-0 after Day 2.

The Magrath Pandas are 2-2 after Friday.

The Pandas downed Onoway High 2-0 (25–20, 25–19), but were handed their first loss of the weekend Friday afternoon, falling 2-0 (16–25, 25–27) to Spirit River Regional Academy before losing 2-0 to Calgary Rundle College (22–25, 17–25).

Vauxhall wraps up the roundrobin portion of provincial­s today at 11:30 a.m. against the Christ the King Chargers, while the Pandas face the David Thompson Voyagers at 10:15 a.m.

At the 1A boys provincial­s in Eckville, the Bow Island Senator Gershaw Gators are 4-0 following Friday’s games.

Facing fellow undefeated and host team Eckville in the late draw, the Gators posted a 2-0 win (25–11, 25–23) to sit undefeated heading into today’s play.

Senator Gershaw downed Clear Water 2-0 Friday morning (25–10, 25–12) and moved to 30 in the afternoon with a 2-0 decision over Ecole Beausejour (25–18, 25–10).

The Picture Butte Sugar Queens are 2-1 at 1A girls provincial­s in Bonnyville. They beat Bassano (25–22, 25–22) and Boyle (25–16, 25–21) 2-0, but lost 2-1 to Bawlf School (26–24, 15–25, 7–15).

The Sugar Queens were playing Ecole la Rose Sauvage in the late game.
