MATCHING PETS WITH PEOPLE

-

This public service feature runs each Saturday in the Lethbridge Herald.

Would you like to meet a grateful cat? Twitch will be at the downtown Homes Alive from noon until three p.m. today. This silver-grey one-year-old is happy to be in a warm and safe environment. Living as a stray — probably abandoned — Twitch may have been feeling the approaching winter with some trepidation. He’s young, healthy and active, but living outside ages a cat, and his robustness may not have lasted long. Fortunately, he was brought in by a young couple who are now fostering him. He knows who his friends are: when his people come into a room, Twitch coos and clicks and winds around their legs, happy to spend time with humans. He’s learned the joys of security indoors: the regular meals, the toys, the chance to play — which he does with energy! He is learning about other cats; indeed, that’s how he introduced himself to his rescuers: he wanted to be pals with their furry boy. But he’s ready for his permanent home — and you can be sure he’ll be thankful for that, too. And his name? It comes from a game website, not a nervous condition. If you can’t visit Twitch today but would like to meet him anyway, call PAW at 403-3286700 or send an online inquiry at www.pawsociety.com. Give Twitch the best reason to be grateful: adoption.

Mickie invites you to come to the Taber Pet Valu today between noon and 3 pm to meet some of our kittens that are available for adoption. There will be 13 there waiting to see if anyone chooses them for their new family member. Mickie is also at our intake house with her roommates waiting patiently hoping that someone would bring them into their family and home. The Last Chance Cat Ranch is currently also in need of foster homes for some of our cats. Next weekend we are also at Meet Your Maker at the Legion on Mayor Magrath Drive where we will have a lot of Christmas ornaments and gifts that are handmade. Something for everyone! You can read more about us by visiting www.facebook.com/lastchancecatranch.com or www.thelastchancecatranch.com. Thank you to everyone who supports our rescue efforts. We are grateful for all the support we receive to assist with our astronomical vet bills.

Bubbles is quite timid, not sure whether he should come out of his kennel or not. He joins small groups of the other cats. Bubbles loves toys and will go out of his way to get them. If you are interested in meeting Bubbles, you can visit him at the Lethbridge Humane Society (2920 16 Ave. N. or call 403-320-8991). To view other Haven pets, go to www.lethbridgehumanesociety.com and click on the Available Pets link. Also check out the Lethbridge and District Humane Society on Facebook.

Lily is approximately five years old and came to Purrfect Endings Rescue in early November. She was being fed by some kind people at their shop in Coaldale. She was extremely fearful and the people were very concerned because she was missing most of her right, front leg. Lily is in a wonderful foster home where she is slowly coming around and learning to trust. She has been spayed and her leg assessed. The vet felt it might have been surgically repaired when she was a kitten and then somehow she became a stray. She is also missing quite a few teeth. Despite everything she has been through, Lily is a very sweet cat and we will make sure that from now on she gets all the love and caring she so deserves. Call Linda (403-381-9269) or Sam (403-382-0977) for more information about Lily. Thank you so much to everyone who supported us at the Big Christmas Farmer's Market and Trade Show last weekend. We would also like to thank those wonderful individuals who have donated to help with our huge bill at Green Acres Animal Hospital. We have so many cats who require dentals, special food, medications or other medical care. It is because of your help that we are able to continue to rescue those with no choice and no voice.

Gracie is around eight years old. She gets along well with other dogs and does best with cats that are a bit “standoffish.” She likes to snuggle on the couch and car rides. She is quiet and is housetrained. She is timid at first, we think she would do best in a home with kids old enough to understand that they need to give her the time and space she needs. Visit

www.windycityrescue.com or call 403359-3139 for more information.
